About Dr. Julie Tsimring

Dr. Julie Tsimring, DO - Osteopath

Dr. Yuliya ("Julie") Tsimring, D.O. was born in Ukraine and raised in Central NJ. She attended Montclair State University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Community Health Education and Jewish American Studies. She then earned her medical degree at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine. Following medical school, she completed a residency in General Pediatrics at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. After practicing General Pediatrics for a few years, Dr. Tsimring recognized that something was missing - the approach of viewing the patient as a whole and complete being. Once Dr. Tsimring recognized this opportunity to transform her approach, she then completed a fellowship in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine/Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine at Morristown Medical Center. Today, Dr. Tsimring works as an osteopath treating both adults and children. She is the only physician in the state of New Jersey to be board certified in both General Pediatrics and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine/Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine. She currently resides at the Jersey Shore. In her free time, she spends time with her husband and three children, mostly spent chasing the kids and cleaning up messes.

A.T. Still, the founder of osteopathic manipulation, taught that “to find the health should be the object of the doctor. Anyone can find disease.” In that vein, Dr. Tsimring’s goal is to assist the individual in finding their place of balance and comfort. This is achieved through gentle hands-on mobilization of all the body’s tissues - ranging from bone to ligament, fascia to muscle, and all others as well.

About Osteopathy

Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine can be used to support a wide range of medical and musculoskeletal conditions. Treatment is always individualized and may be used alone or alongside conventional medical care.

Osteopathic medicine is a whole-person approach to healthcare that emphasizes the relationship between the body’s structure and its ability to function optimally.

In the United States, Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs) and Doctors of Medicine (MDs) are the only two types of fully licensed physicians. Both complete four years of medical school, 3+ years of residency and fellowship training, and board certification in their chosen specialty, and both are licensed to practice medicine and surgery, prescribe medications, and provide comprehensive medical care. In addition to this shared medical training, DOs receive extensive education in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM)—a hands-on form of physician-directed medical bodywork used to diagnose and treat dysfunction throughout the body.

Osteopathic medicine was founded in the late 1800s by physician Andrew Taylor Still, MD, DO, who recognized that many health concerns arise when the body’s structure—muscles, joints, connective tissue, nerves and other components—is restricted or imbalanced. This philosophy remains central to osteopathic care today and is fully integrated with modern, evidence-based medicine across all medical specialties.

Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine uses gentle, precise hands-on techniques to evaluate and treat restrictions affecting the musculoskeletal, neurologic, circulatory, fascial, lymphatic, visceral systems, and more. This form of medical bodywork is designed to restore motion, improve alignment, enhance nervous system regulation, and most importantly, support the body’s natural capacity for healing. Treatment is individualized and appropriate for patients of all ages, including infants, children, pregnant patients, and adults.

Dr. Tsimring is a double board-certified physician in both Pediatrics and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. She integrates comprehensive pediatric and medical care with advanced hands-on osteopathic treatment and physician-directed bodywork to support function, comfort, and overall health across all stages of life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us by text at (732) 784-8840 if you cannot find an answer to your question.

You will receive a brief intake form prior to your visit so I can understand your medical history, current concerns, and goals for treatment. For infants and children, please wear comfortable clothing that allows movement. For infants coming in for any feeding-related issues, please aim to have eaten about 1 hour before your appointment, but if that doesn’t work out, no problem — come as you are and we will make it all work. For all others, please wear clothing that allows for movement. You will not need to change into a gown.

Your visit is unhurried and individualized. Appointments typically include:

  • A detailed discussion of your symptoms, medical history, and goals
  • A hands-on structural evaluation
  • Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) tailored specifically to your body and complaints

OMM is a hands-on medical treatment used to address restrictions in muscles, joints, connective tissue, fascia, nerves, lymphatics, organs, circulation, and more, that may be contributing to pain or poor function. Techniques are chosen based on your age, comfort level, diagnosis, and overall health.

You are encouraged to ask questions at any point during your visit.

Most patients describe OMM as gentle and relaxing. Some techniques involve light pressure or stretching; others may feel more direct but should never be painful. Some techniques involve patient participation. For infants and children, only the most gentle techniques are used. If anything feels uncomfortable, treatment is adjusted immediately.

After treatment, you may feel more relaxed, looser, or lighter. Some patients experience mild soreness for 24–48 hours, similar to post-exercise soreness. Staying well hydrated and engaging in gentle movement is encouraged. I ask that you avoid any other bodywork therapies for 72 hours, including physical/occupational therapy, craniosacral therapy, acupuncture, etc. Any specific after-care recommendations will be reviewed with you.

The number of treatments varies depending on your condition, how long symptoms have been present, and how your body responds. Most patients notice improvement after one visit, while others benefit from a series of treatments. A personalized plan will be discussed — there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

OMM is a hands-on treatment performed by a physician (DO) that focuses on the relationship between the body’s structure and function. By improving structure and function, OMM supports the body’s natural ability to heal.

OMM can benefit patients of all ages, including infants, children, pregnant patients, and adults. Common reasons patients seek OMM include:

  • Breastfeeding-related issues
  • Torticollis or plagiocephaly
  • Constipation, colic, or reflux
  • Back and neck pain
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Postural or repetitive strain
  • Sports or overuse injuries
  • Pregnancy-related discomfort
  • Stress and tension-related symptoms

Many patients ask how Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) compares to other hands-on therapies such as craniosacral therapy or chiropractic care. While there can be overlap in techniques, there are important differences in training, scope, and approach.

OMM is the only hands-on bodywork modality performed by a fully licensed physician (DO) and is guided by medical diagnosis, physical examination, and an understanding of how all body systems interact. One of the foundational tenets of osteopathic medicine is that the body is a unit — an integrated whole of body, mind, and spirit. This means treatment decisions consider all relevant body systems, the interplay between those systems, and how they work together, rather than focusing on a single technique or isolated area. The patient’s complete well-being is the focus over the technique used to get there.

Dr. Tsimring is trained in the use of ‘Osteopathy in the Cranial Field’ (OCF), alternatively known as ‘Osteopathic Craniosacral Manipulative Medicine.’ At its core, craniosacral therapy is a simplified version of OCF and is provided by non-physicians. Those individuals who find benefit from craniosacral therapy typically find even greater benefit from OCF.

OCF addresses patterns of strain within an anatomic structure which can reflect problems throughout the body, including the musculoskeletal, nervous, endocrine, vascular, and lymphatic/glymphatic systems. Dr. Tsimring uses OCF as a complement to many other techniques to fully address the patient’s individual needs, as the body is comprised of more parts beyond the cranial-sacral relationship.

Dr. Tsimring is a fully-licensed, board-certified medical doctor who can manipulate not only every joint in the entire body, but also every organ, muscle, tendon, ligament, nerve, artery, vein, and connective tissue. There is an OMM technique referred to as “high velocity, low amplitude” (HVLA) which is similar, but not identical to, the cracking technique chiropractors use. There are rare times that HVLA may be indicated during a treatment session, but never for children. Dr. Tsimring always confirms beforehand whether that is your preference, and there are several alternatives if needed.

Chiropractic is built on reducing symptoms by aligning the body’s skeletal system. In contrast, osteopathic doctors have greater knowledge of the functioning of both the skeletal system as well as all organ systems and the diseases that impact the body. Again, osteopathy is rooted in taking a look at the entire person.

While high-velocity techniques are included in OMM, they are never required, rarely used by Dr. Tsimring, and are only performed if appropriate and if the patient is comfortable. Most OMM techniques are extremely gentle.
